Sheet Metrics
provide insights into your user experience. They enable you to review the performance and usage patterns of your sheets. With usage metrics, you can track user-adoption of particular sheets. With the performance metrics, you can find sheets that might benefit the most from optimization. We display all the sheets in your model on the Sheet Metrics
page. You can review the metrics for a day or for a time range. We can only display metrics from the time that the
Planning Center
became available to your instance. Sheet Metrics
update as users open and save the specific sheets. It takes at least 2 days of activity for average load times to display. We don't display the metrics for the current day or the prior day. We collect the metrics every day at midnight UTC. When you have any usage for sheets that have since been deleted, we display 1 row with the aggregated metrics for all the deleted sheets.
You can:
- Use the search to filter the sheets.
- ClickExportto download the filtered list. The export includes all pages.
- SelectModelingfrom the main menu.
- ClickPlanning Center.
- From the left panel, clickSheet metrics.
- From the toolbar, select a 31-day time range within the previous 90 days or select a single day.You must select a day, or a range that ends, at least 2 days prior to today's date.
- As you review usage metrics, consider:
Option Bezeichnung ViewsThe total number of times the sheet has been viewed. If a sheet isn’t getting a lot of views, you might consider removing it.Distinct ViewsThe number of views by different users who viewed the sheet. This metric adds context to theViewsmetric. Example: A sheet that gets 100 views, but only 5 distinct views can mean that the sheet has low adoption.SavesThe number of times viewers saved the sheet. This metric tracks where changes are being made. It also adds more context to the other metrics. Example: A sheet with many views, but no saves is a sheet that's used mostly to gather information. It might work better as a report.Usage metrics help you to:- Identify high- and low-traffic sheets.
- Identify unused sheets that you might consider deleting.
- Identify sheets with data that might perform better as reports.
- Focus optimization efforts on the sheets that are getting the most traffic.
- As you review performance metrics, consider:
Option Bezeichnung Average time to openThe average time it takes to load the sheet once users select it. Longer load times can indicate an inefficient sheet that can use some optimization.95th percent time to openHow long it takes to load the sheet in the worst case scenario, after ignoring the top 5% to remove anomalies and outliers. For performance optimization, consider any of these actions:- Encourage users to open the sheet at a child level–select the child level from theSheets Overviewpage before opening the sheet.
- For calculated accounts, use data entry overrides for actuals versions.
- Set initial views for users and encourage users to save personal views that limit the data:
- Use filters.
- Suppress zeros and blanks for cube and standard sheets.
- Move dimensions and attributes to the filters instead of nesting in the rows for cube sheets.
- If the sheet has many linked accounts, you can optimize the sheet in these ways:
- Remove chain-linked accounts. Instead link directly to the source data. Example: Account A links to Account B. Account B links to Account C. Link Account A to Account C.
- Remove linked accounts that are on the sheet for analysis purposes. You can serve the same purpose with a report.
- Unlink and delete legacy accounts that are no longer used.
- Replace multiple linked accounts with 1 account that links to multiple sources when possible.
